– Meet The Brewer with Bruno Carilli (Toccalmatto) – Monday 10th June 2013 / 6pm
SOLD OUT – available from the bar or call 0161 237 9949
Birra Toccalmatto started brewing in Fidenza, near Parma, in northern Italy, in 2008, initially producing 550 liter batches (just over 3.5 BBL.) Head brewer Bruno Carilli gained experience in the food and brewing industry, and then decided he wanted to produce his own beer. So, with the help of three friends, he made his passion for brewing traditional Belgian and British beers a reality.
Experimentation is a big part of Toccalmatto, and many of the beers are very hop forward. To aid in the development of local hops, cultivation of 16 new hop varieties has started between Fidenza and Tabbiano. Beers like ‘Zona Cesarini’, ‘B Space Invader,’ and ‘Tabula Rasa’ have already graced the Port Street taps, and for the Meet the Brewer, we will be tasting five of their wonderful beers, accompanied by some culinary delights.

– Port Street Pop Ups with Chaat Cart – Thursday 16th May
This Thursday 16th May we welcome the launch of our regular Port Street Pop Ups, first up we have Chaat Cart. They will be providing excellent organic Indian street foods, here are a few words about their wonderful food :
“Inspired by my childhood in India and travels around South Asia, Chaat Cart was born. We make Indian street food, (seriously addictive) dishes found on the streets of India, also called chaat. Chaat is a roadside snack usually sold from a cart, often wrapped in newspaper but always delicious! There are loads of different varieties found all over India, we focus on a handful and try to do justice to the legions of original chaat-wallahs. All our dishes are freshly made to order and just happen to be vegetarian.”
Chaat Cart Menu for Thursday 16th May / 6pm :
Masala Dosa – Watch yours being made! A south Indian street food dish, a dosa is a savoury crepe made from a batter of rice and black lentils. A Masala dosa is made by stuffing a dosa with a spiced potatoes filling (naturally gluten-free).
Indian Snack box – the best vegetable Samosa in Manchester, Vada – a savoury lentil doughnut, Pakora – everyone’s favourite onion fritters. Served in a box with Aarti’s homemade chutneys!
