– Independent Manchester Beer Convention – 5th and 6th October 2012
You may have heard that we are planning a beer festival in October, it’s called the Independent Manchester Beer Convention and it takes place at the wonderful Victoria Baths, over the past few weeks we have been busy booking in breweries, food stalls and some very special events. You can read loads more about the festival via the IMBC website.
The event is just under six weeks away and we are getting super excited about what we have planned for you, over the course of the two days the convention will host a swimming pool full of more than thirty keg beers, with the breweries manning each stall. This will include: Brewdog, Thornbridge, Magic Rock, Tempest, Hardknott, Lovibonds, Summer Wine Brewery, Camden Town Brewery, Ilkley Brewery with more beers selected by James Clay and Portable Street Beer House.
The IMBC meal with Aumbry has been announced, the beer and food pairing menu will include Welsh Rock Oyster, Home Smoked Mackerel, Cumbrian Wood Pigeon, Grapefruit Posset and Petit Fours. Each course has been carefully selected to match beers provided by Port Street Beer House, the full menu can be viewed here. Places are limited to only 35 tickets and are selling fast!
Over the next two weeks we will be announcing our full cask list, events schedule and food stalls! Can this get any better? With over a quarter of the tickets sold, IMBC is set to change the beer festival landscape!

Schlenkerla is a historic brewpub in Bamberg, Bavaria, Germany renowned for it’s ‘Rauchbier’ or smoked beer. For the first time in Manchester the rauchbier will be served straight from an oak barrel on the bar top in the traditional manner, Matthias Trum from Schlenkerla will be there to host the evening.

How can our Meet The Brewer evenings get any better? Each month seems to raise the bar and last Monday was no exception as Roosters brought their Yorkshire wit with them and served up five tasty beers, each matched with locally sourced food. A fantastic evening, here is what we sampled :
Buckeye – served with Buckeye infused pork pie (Elite Meat, Harrogate)
Wild Mule – served with parmesan & herb biscotti (Bettys, Harrogate)
PS I Love You – served with Wensleydale cheese & farmhouse fruit cake (Farrah’s, Harrogate)
Londinium – served with vanilla cream and caramelised nut chocolate (Farrah’s, Harrogate)
The Accomplice – served with Mrs Bell’s Yorkshire blue cheese with Cartwright & Butler crackers

Hatched in 1993, at a time when most ales on the market were brown, Rooster’s Brewing Co. fast developed a reputation for brewing ground-breaking, hop-forward pale ales that showcase exciting new hops from the USA. Beers such as Yankee™ soon started to attract the attention of judges at beer festivals across the UK, racking up countless awards along the way.
Fast forward nearly twenty years and Roosters are still crazy about hops and the flavours they impart on beer – their hop store is crammed full of varieties from all over the world, from Australia and New Zealand to Slovenia and North America. But that’s not to say they don’t enjoy playing around with other flavours and styles of beer along the way.
Over the years the awards have kept coming, but on a slightly larger scale, with both YPA™ and Leghorn picking up gold medals at the prestigious World Beer Cup in recent times. It’s their continued aim to produce the highest quality, clean-drinking beers possible, whilst also continuing to experiment and innovate, as new beer styles evolve and customer curiosity grows.
